MONTHLY MEETINGS

Members gather the first Saturday each month at the Trini Mendenhall Community Center (1414 Wirt Road, Houston 77055).  The Board of Directors will meet at 9 AM, followed by the regular meeting starting at 10 AM.  Refreshments provided.

Monthly meetings include world-renowned guest speaker programs, “show and tell” demonstrations, and hands on workshops that inform and educate.

  • Saturday, July 3rd , HBS monthly program: Trini Mendenhall Community Center, 10 AM – 12 Noon, Bonsai, BBQ and getting back to normal. YES, IN PERSON. They are finally letting us meet in our old location at Full Capacity. You are welcome to still wear a mask if you have a medical issue, or will feel more comfortable, but it is not required. We will have brisket, Sausage, Ribs , chicken and all the fixin’s.

  • Saturday, June 19th, Tiger Bark Ficus over Rock, Timeless Trees Nursery, 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM, (3 people – 1 spot open) $100.00 These Tiger Barks came from Wigert’s in Florida, s where they have been happily growing over a rock for at least 3 years. We will re-pot and wire the trees and remove about 1/2 of the soil covering the rock. We will provide the trees. Ceramic pot, soil, and necessary wire. See Photo above.
  • Saturday, June 26th, Tiger Bark Ficus Workshop, Timeless Trees Nursery, 9 AM – 12:00 Noon, (8 people – 5 spots open) $75.00 These Tiger Bark Ficus also came from Wigerts and have a 1–2-inch trunk. See photo above. They can be cut down for Shohin, or left tall and sinuous. We will provide the trees. Ceramic pot, soil, and necessary wire.
  • Saturday, June 26th, Desmodium Forest Workshop, Timeless Trees Nursery, 1:00 PM – 4 PM, (6 people – 3 spots open) $75.00 These Desmodiums are native to Viet Nam. They bloom purple flowers all summer, and smell like grapes. They have large thorns that can easily be cut off. The large ones are very expensive and hard to find. These will be a fun tree to work on and so Fragrant.

  • Saturday, July 10th, Mike Lane Workshop on Sea Hibiscus, Timeless Trees, 9 AM – Noon, $?? , (8 spots- 6 open), Work with Mike Lane, Wigert’s #1 Apprentice, and an amazing artist. Styling, wiring and repotting a sea hibiscus, ( his favorite tree)
  • Saturday, July 10th, Mike Lane Tropical Workshop, Bring you own Tree., 12:30 – 4:30 PM, $45 per person, (8 spots- 6 open) Work with Mike Lane on your favorite Tropicals. Please bring your Trees, tools, wire and supplies. We will provide refreshments.
  • Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 16th, 17th and 18th, Bonsai Intensive with Boon Manakitivipart, Timeless Trees Nursery, (8 spots) – Cost and selection to be decided soon, Please let us know if you are interested.
  • Saturday, July 24th, Bonsai Basics #2 – Styling and Wiring, Timeless Trees, 1 PM – 5 PM, $60.00 (8 spots) We will teach the basics of styling and wiring a tree. We will provide a tree, (Boxwood, Yaupon or Podocarpus, depending on what is in season.) wire cutters, handout, and wire. Everyone goes home with a styled tree.
